ICE FISHING: Free Learning Event | Community Spirit
Story County Conservation will sponsor a free ice fishing event on Friday, December 28th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at McFarland Park, northeast of Ames.
The program will teach about basic safety and equipment, and techniques needed to catch a fish through ice.
Participants will meet inside the conservation center for instructions and then venture out to McFarland Lake to fish. A limited amount of fishing equipment and bait will be provided.
Registration is required by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26th. There is no fee for this program. Youth age 15 and under must have an adult present. Youth groups planning to attend must have one adult for every five youth on site. All participants over the age of 16 must have a valid Iowa fishing license.
Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and to bring a camp stool or 5-gallon bucket to sit on.
