HOLIDAY TRAVEL: Amtrak Tries Out Bus Shuttle | News
It’s the season to travel and in central Iowa, Amtrak is trying something to make train travel more appealing.
Amtrak is running an experimental bus service through Friday this week. The bus runs from the Ames inter-modal facility in Campus Town and picks up passengers at the Burlington Trailways Depot on Keo in Des Moines.
Amtrak offers same-day travel to Chicago and next-morning arrivals to Denver. They say you can do it all, without driving.
“Having Amtrak thruway busses connect to and from trains is very popular all over our network including this route on the Calif. Zephyr Route. There’s another connection we do in Galesburg Illinois. We’re looking to do more and more of these connections to make it easier for people to ride Amtrak Trains,” says Mark Magliari, Amtrak spokesman.
The service adds about $5 to the Amtrak ticket for the shuttle. It will be offered Thursday and Friday and also after the holiday break, from January 11th through the 13th.
