LOTTERY WINNERS: $30,000 For Ferguson Couple

A retired Ferguson couple recently found themselves a little better off.

66 year-old Glenda and Dale Thompson, 67, won the 36th $30,000 Crossword scratch lottery ticket.

At first Dale thought they'd won $300, but Glenda double-checked the ticket and discovered it was much more than that. "He says, 'This looks like I got $300,'" Glenda said. "And I took the ticket and I found some more words. I said, 'I think it says $30,000.'"

The couple just discovered their win on Monday. They claimed their prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. They purchased their winning ticket at the Marshalltown Fareway.

There are 61 top prizes of $30,000 still available.

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $3 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $1.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.
