AMES CHASE: Truck In River, Suspects Still Free | News
Ames police are searching for two people after a chase early Wednesday morning ended in the Skunk River.
It led to a search but the suspects are still on the loose.
The chase started around 1:15 a.m. when an officer tried to pull over a truck at Dayton and Edison streets. The driver took off but around Lincoln Way and Carnegie stopped to let out a passenger. The passenger fled on foot.
Police say the driver kept going, eventually driving into a cornfield around Lincoln Way and Freel Street. He then drove the truck into the Skunk River.
Officers searched the area along with a K9 unit. That section of the Skunk River is surrounded by a heavily wooded area with open fields around it.
Ames police along with Iowa State University police and Story County Sheriff’s deputies searched for several hours but could not find the driver. Police say the flat bed truck he was in was stolen from Nevada.
The driver is described as a white male with dark hair and a mustache. He was wearing a Carhart-style jacket and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call Ames police or Story County Crime Stoppers.
